Neal is an Exercise Physiologist with a Master's Degree in Applied Physiology from Columbia University, in New York City.
A fitness professional for 32 years, Neal has been listed as one of the top ten fitness directors and educators in the nation by The American Council on Exercise in 2004 and 2005.
Neal has vast experience training both de-conditioned adults and competitive athletes. He has spent the majority of the past 13 years educating professional trainers, helping them hone their skills and understand the nuances of personal training and athletic conditioning.
Neal is a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He has also earned certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and the American Council on Exercise (ACE). He is one of a very few career fitness professionals in the world who have received the prestigious credential of Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.
He has served as Co-author / Reviewer for the Certificate of Enhanced Qualification for Advanced Personal Trainers, and as Certification Examiner and Workshop Director for the ACSM. He serves on the Executive Council for the Committee on Certification and Registry Board for the ACSM and has also served on the Faculty Advisory Board for ACE.
An avid Sports Scientist, Neal has worked extensively with athletes at all levels – from the developmental Pee-Wee Soccer player, to the World-class Gymnast, to the Olympic figure skater, to the NFL Pro football player. He has served on the Sports Medicine Team for USA Track and Field and the New York City Marathon, and is currently a Strength and Conditioning Specialist for USA Swimming’s Sports Medicine and Science Network.
Neal has been a contributor to the Step-by-Step column for Club Industry Fitness Business Pro and the Healthy Living Section for Manhattan Living magazine. He has served as author and Associate Editor for the American College of Sports Medicine’s Resources for the Personal Trainer Manual and ACSM’s Health-Related Physical Fitness Assessment Manual, and is author of Plyometrics for Explosive Speed and Power (Ulysses Press, 2006).
A sought after fitness expert and lecturer to medical, government, professional, and community groups, Neal has been a contributor or technical consultant to local and national media such as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Weight Watcher’s, Muscle & Fitness HERS, WebMD, Family Circle, MSNBC, Runner’s World, Shape, Fitness, Heart and Soul, Women Outside Magazine, MarketWatch Weekend, WB/WPIX-TV, Univision-TV, WABC-TV Eyewitness News, and the CBS Early Show, among others.
Neal is a member of the Speakers Bureau for the Strategic Health Initiative for Women, Sport and Physical Activity, and has served as Lecturer for the Orthopedic Sciences Department on the Faculty at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
